HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., Feb. 7 (UPI) -- The New York Jets on Tuesday announced the promotion of 36-year-old Mike Tannenbaum to general manager.
Two weeks ago, the Jets named 34-year-old Eric Mangini as head coach.
Tannenbaum has been a part of the Jets' organization since 1997 and has served in a variety of administrative football management positions. Prior to his promotion, Tannenbaum most recently was the team's senior vice president of football operations/assistant general manager.
Before joining the Jets, Tannenbaum served as a player personnel assistant with the New Orleans Saints in 1994 and 1996 and Cleveland Browns during the 1995 season.
Tannenbaum oversaw the team's pro personnel department, professional scouting and was the lead negotiator for player contracts, as well as being responsible for the management and strategic planning of the Jets' salary cap.
