Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Former Angels catcher Bengie Molina has agreed to a one-year, $5 million contract with the Toronto Blue Jays.
The deal includes a mutual $7.5 million option for 2007 but is far short of what Molina had been hoping for, The Los Angeles Times reported.
Molina, 31, who entered free agency this year, was expecting something in the four-year, $25 million range, the report said.
The New York Mets had offered a three-year, $18 million contract in November, but when Molina and his agent hedged, the Mets acquired catcher Paul Lo Duca.
"The market just went away on us. It wasn't there," Alan Nero, Molina's agent, said. Nero said Molina chose the Blue Jays because they offered a greater chance at a future long-term contract.
