Mirza beats Pennetta at Open Gaz de France

PARIS, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Indian Sania Mirza upset sixth-seeded Italian Flavia Pennetta in Tuesday's first-round action at the $600,000 Open Gaz de France.

Mirza, 19 and world No. 32, beat the 16th-ranked Pennetta, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5). Pennetta was the only seed in action Tuesday.

Tatiana Golovin beat Poland's Marta Domachowska 6-0, 7-5 and Virginie Razzano routed Czech Kveta Peschke 6-1, 6-1.

Razzano has a second-round match Wednesday against reigning Gaz de France titlist Dinara Safina of Russia. Safina beat French star Amelie Mauresmo, this week's top seed, in last year's final here.

Israeli Anna Smashnova beat France's Severine Bremond, 6-1, 6-2.
