MELBOURNE, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Roger Federer of Switzerland advanced to Sunday's Australian Open final with a four-set semifinal victory over German Nicolas Kiefer Friday.
Federer, ranked No. 1 in the world, beat Kiefer, 6-3, 5-7, 6-0, 6-2, and will face unseeded Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis in the final.
Baghdatis -- who has lost all three of his lifetime matches against Federer -- beat fourth-seeded Argentine David Nalbandian in their semifinal match Thursday.
Kiefer committed 53 unforced errors during Friday's match against Federer -- a reigning three-time Wimbledon and two-time U.S. Open champ who is going after his seventh Grand Slam title in 11 tries. Federer won the Australian Open in 2004 and lost in last year's semifinal to eventual champion Marat Safin.
