INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- The Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings finalized the Ron Artest-for-Peja Stojakovic trade Wednesday.
The deal had been worked out on Tuesday, but fell through when the controversial Artest said he did not want to play in Sacramento. On Wednesday morning, he accepted the trade after a meeting with Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh and team president Larry Bird.
"There's no doubt in our mind he'll have an immediate impact on their team," Walsh said.
Last month, in an interview with the Indianapolis Star, Artest claimed the Pacers would be better off if they traded him.
In only 16 games this season, he averaged 19.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per contest. He was permanently placed the inactive list in early December.
NBA Commissioner David Stern suspended Artest for the final 73 games of the 2004-05 season, over his role at the center of a benches-clearing brawl in a game at Detroit on Nov. 19, 2004.
