GLENDALE, Ariz., Jan. 24 (UPI) -- The Phoenix Coyotes traded forward Martin Sonnenberg to the New York Rangers Tuesday in exchange for center Jeff Taffe.

Taffe, 24, was immediately assigned to the Coyotes' top minor league affiliate in San Antonio (AHL). He is making his second tour of duty with Phoenix, which originally sent him to the Rangers for Jamie Lundmark earlier this season.

Taffe has 11 goals and 22 points in 83 career games.

Sonnenberg, 28, had played this entire season with San Antonio. In 41 games with the Rampage, Sonnenberg registered 10 goals and seven assists to go along with 34 penalty minutes. In 63 career NHL games with both Pittsburgh and Calgary, Sonnenberg has five points.
