NHL: Nashville 2, Detroit 1 (OT)

DETROIT, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Paul Kariya scored 35 seconds into overtime Tuesday to give the Nashville Predators a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings.

The victory put the Predatiors in a first-place tie in the Central Division with the Red Wings.

Steve Sullivan also scored for Nashville, which won both games of the consecutive-night series. It was Nashville's fourth win in its last five games.

Tomas Vokoun made 38 saves in the victory.

Mathieu Schneider scored for the fourth straight game for Detroit, which has earned a point in five of its last six games (4-1-1). Manny Legace allowed two goals on 28 shots in the losing effort.
