NFL: NFC Title: Seattle 34, Carolina 14

SEATTLE, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Shaun Alexander ran for two touchdowns Sunday as Seattle smashed Carolina, 34-14, in the NFC title game to qualify for Super Bowl XL against Pittsburgh.

The Seahawks used a deafening roar by their home-field crowd to rattle the Panthers from the outset.

Matt Hasselbeck threw for 219 yards and two touchdowns; Alexander gained 132 yards on 34 attempts; and both Jerramy Stevens and Darrell Jackson had scoring receptions for the Seahawks, who broke the Panthers' four-game winning streak in road playoff games.

Jake Delhomme, who was intercepted three times, threw for 196 yards and one touchdown; Drew Carter had a touchdown on two receptions for 88 yards; and Carolina was limited to 36 yards on 12 rushes.

The Panthers were stopped in their quest to make the Super Bowl for the second time in three years.

Seattle will meet AFC champion Pittsburgh on Sunday, Feb. 5, at Detroit's Ford Field.
