NHL: Washington 5, Carolina 2

WASHINGTON, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Matt Pettinger and Chris Clark each had a goal and an assist Saturday as the Washington Capitals posted a 5-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Brian Willsie, Ben Clymer and Brooks Laich also scored goals and Olaf Kolzig made 31 saves for the Capitals, who have won four straight games for the first time in three years.

Erik Cole scored on a penalty shot and Rod Brind'Amour got his 21st goal of the season for Carolina, which had its nine game winning streak snapped. Martin Gerber stopped 22 of 26 shots for the Hurricanes, who lost for the first time in 2006.
