MELBOURNE, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Roger Federer of Switzerland posted a straight-set win over German Florian Mayer in Thursday's second-round action at the 2006 Australian Open.
World No. 1 and the 2004 Melbourne titlist, Federer blasted Mayer 6-1, 6-4, 6-0 in just 72 minutes at Rod Laver Arena.
Fifth-seeded Russian Nikolay Davydenko moved into the round of 32 with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, 6-2 victory over American Kevin Kim.
Guillermo Coria, seeded sixth, also advanced into the third round with a 7-6 (12-10), 6-4, 6-3 win over Italian Federico Luzzi.
Also posting wins on Day 4 were 12th-seeded Slovak Dominik Hrbaty, No. 21 German Nicolas Kiefer, 23rd-seeded Russian Igor Andreev and Peruvian Luis Horna.
