Serra wins at Adelaide

ADELAIDE, Australia, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Florent Serra Sunday beat Xavier Malisse, 6-3, 6-4, in the title match of the Next Generation Adelaide International tennis tournament in Adelaide, Australia.

Serra, 24, who beat second-seed Dominik Hrbaty in straight sets in the semifinals, captured his second career ATP singles title. The other was in Bucharest in 2005.

He played for the crown in just his second career championship match in the season-opening event on the ATP Tour.

Serra earned a first-prize check of $57,750.

The 25-year-old Malisse has dropped seven of his eight championship matches. His only title came last season at Delray Beach, Fla.
