WASHINGTON, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Nathan Horton and Joe Nieuwendyk both scored shoot-out goals Sunday as the Florida Panthers beat the Washington Capitals, 4-3.
Olli Jokinen scored two goals in regulation; Sean Hill scored a goal; Horton and Nieuwendyk each had two assists; and goaltender Roberto Luongo made 33 saves for the Panthers (17-22-6), who broke a three-game road losing streak and improved to 1-2 in shoot-outs.
Dainius Zubrus scored two goals; Jamie Heward scored once; Alexander Ovechkin had two assists; and goalie Olie Kolzig made 39 saves for the Capitals (13-23-4), who have dropped four in a row.
Florida out-shot Washington, 45-39. The Panthers were 2-for-7 on the power play. The Capitals went 2-for-9.
Washington fell to 5-3 in shoot-outs.
