KANSAS CITY, Mo., Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Herman Edwards will be the new head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.

ESPN.com reported Sunday that Edwards, who has been the coach of the New York Jets for the past five seasons, will get $12 million over four years.

The Jets will get a fourth-round pick in the NFL Draft in April, as the 51-year-old Edwards, who played for Philadelphia, still had two years left on his contract with the Jets. Several newspapers reported Kansas City will hold a news conference on Monday to introduce him.

Edwards, who was recruited by Chiefs President Carl Peterson, had an overall record of just 39-41 with the Jets, but made the post-season three times. This season, the Jets were a dismal 4-12 after losing key players to injury.

Kansas City went 10-6 under the retired Dick Vermeil, and was the only team with 10 wins that did not qualify for the NFL post-season.
