AUCKLAND, New Zealand, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- The top two seeds were beaten Friday in the semifinals of the ASB Classic at Auckland, New Zealand.

No. 1 Nadia Petrova retired in the third set of her match against Marion Bartoli because of a groin injury, trailing, 3-6, 6-4, 2-1. Second-seed Daniela Hantuchova fell to Vera Zvonareva, 6-2, 6-2.

"I'm really happy with my game, especially with the kind of conditions we had today," Zvonareva said. "The wind wasn't as strong as it has been, but it was changing direction all the time and it was really difficult to play beautiful tennis. You just had to hang in there."

Bartoli and Zvonareva play Saturday with the winner claiming a first prize check of $22,900.
