Green Bay Packers fire Mike Sherman

GREEN BAY, Wis., Jan. 2 (UPI) -- The Green Bay Packers Monday fired head coach Mike Sherman a day after the NFL team finished its worst season since 1991 going 4-12.

Sherman, 51, signed a two-year contract extension in August and ended his sixth season with the Packers with an overall record of 59-43. He joins Curley Lambeau, Vince Lombardi and Mike Holmgren as one of four coaches with a career winning record in franchise history.

Sherman, who also served as executive vice president, saw the Packers suffer their worst season in 15 years.

Quarterback Bret Farve led the Pack to a 23-17 win over the Seattle Seahawks Sunday.

Top receiver Javon Walker and running back Ahman Green both suffered early season-ending injuries and Farve may be considering retirement, opening the way for rebuilding.
