Tommie Harris' wife dies

DETROIT, Jan. 1 (UPI) -- Nicklas Lidstrom and Mikael Samuelsson both scored two goals Saturday night to help Detroit beat the Columbus Blue Jackets, 5-2.
Mathieu Schneider tallied once, Robert Lang recorded three assists and goalie Chris Osgood had to make only 13 saves for the Red Wings (26-9-3), who have won five in a row.
Rick Nash and Jason Chimera both scored goals, Trevor Letowski, Cale Hulse and Jamie Pushor had assists while Marc Denis, playing in relief of injured starter Pascal Leclaire, gave up five goals on 30 shots for Columbus (12-26-1), which had a three-game winning streak broken.
Detroit had a huge 43-15 advantage in shots on goal. The Red Wings went 2-for-6 on the power play while the Blue Jackets were 0-for-5.
