NHL: Boston 2, Tampa Bay 1

TAMPA, Fla., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Patrice Beregeron scored on a short-handed break-away goal in the third period Friday night as the Boston Bruins beat Tampa Bay, 2-1.

Wayne Primeau also scored, Brad Stuart and P.J. Axelsson had assists while goalie Hannu Toivonen made 31 saves for the Bruins (14-18-6), who have won two of their last three games.

Rob DiMaio had the only goal, Tim Taylor and Darryl Sydor had assists, and goaltender Sean Burke made 22 saves for the Lightning (19-17-3), who have lost two in a row and six of their last seven games.

The Lightning out-shot Boston, 32-24. The teams went scoreless on nine power play opportunities. Boston was 0-for-4 and Tampa Bay went 0-for-5.
