OWINGS MILLS, Md., Dec. 28 (UPI) -- The Baltimore Ravens Wednesday announced that Brian Billick will return as coach in 2006.
"We have an ongoing and extensive process to find ways to win," said team owner Steve Bisciotti in a statement on Baltimore's Web site. "This included a thorough evaluation of Brian Billick. Collectively, we concluded that continuing with Brian as head coach gives us the best opportunity to win."
In a difficult and injury-plagued 2005, the Ravens are 6-9 heading into their season finale on Sunday at Cleveland. On Dec. 7, they lost all-pro linebacker Ray Lewis to a season-ending torn hamstring. Also injured were linebacker Dan Cody, offensive tackle Orlando Brown, and defensive backs Ed Reed, Jamaine Winbourne and Will Demps.
Billick, 51, guided the Ravens to a Super Bowl title in 2000 and has a career record of 62-49.
Baltimore has not qualified for the post-season three of the past four seasons.
