NHL: Philadelphia 4, Ottawa 3

PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Simon Gagne had a goal and an assist Thursday night as the Philadelphia Flyers beat Ottawa, 4-3.

Mike Knuble, Sami Kapanen and R.J. Umberger also scored once and Peter Forsberg added two assists for the Flyers, who welcomed Gagne back after he missed the last five games with a groin injury. Goalie Antero Niittymaki made 25 saves for the Flyers (20-8-5), who have won four of their last six games.

Antoine Vermette, Zdeno Chara and Mike Fisher scored for Ottawa, which nearly came back from a four-goal deficit. Dominik Hasek was peppered for four goals on 30 shots.

The Senators (23-6-3) are 2-2-3 in their last seven games.

Philadelphia out-shot the Senators, 30-28. Ottawa was 1-for-7 on the power play while the Flyers went 2-for-4.
