BATON ROUGE, La., Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Steve Smith scored two touchdowns and set the Panthers' single-season receiving mark as Carolina beat the New Orleans Saints, 27-10, at Tiger Stadium.
Smith, who had a rushing touchdown, amassed 85 yards and a score receiving for the Panthers (10-4), who moved into sole possession of first place in the NFC South -- one game ahead of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His TD catch in the third quarter gave him 1,414 yards for the season, breaking the franchise-best mark of 1,405 yards, set last year by Muhsin Muhammad.
Carolina's Jake Delhomme finished 13-of-22 for 176 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Delhomme also ran for a score for the Panthers, who are at home against Dallas next week before ending the season in Atlanta.
DeShaun Foster rushed for 75 yards on 21 carries for the Panthers.
Todd Bouman made his first career start since 2001, going 17-of-34 for 193 yards, a touchdown and four interceptions for the Saints.
