Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

NEW YORK, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- The Boston Red Sox and first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz will arbitrate a dispute over title to the baseball used to make the last out of the 2004 World Series.
The Red Sox have dropped their lawsuit in a Massachusetts state court, intended to force Mientkiewicz to turn over the ball -- which he kept after the team won its first World Series since 1918.
The Major League Baseball Players Association and Major League Baseball Commissioner's Office joined the Red Sox and Mientkiewicz in agreeing to let the matter be settled by the Major League Baseball's Arbitration Panel.
No date has been set for the arbitration.
