LAUSANNE, Switzerland, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- The Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland has suspended U.S. sprinter Tim Montgomery for two years for allegedly using performance-enhancing drugs.
Montgomery, who held the 100-meter world record for three years until last June, did not fail a drug test, but the court ruled he had used THG, a banned steroid, The New York Times reported.
The court imposed a similar two-year suspension on another U.S. runner, Chryste Gaines, two-time Olympic medalist in the 4x100-meter relay. She and Montgomery declined to testify before the panel, the report said.
Gaines, 35, and Montgomery, 30, will be stripped of honors and prize money going back to the dates the court determined the drug use began. That would be March 2001 for Montgomery and November 2003 for Gaines.
