NHL: NY Islanders 2, Detroit 1

DETROIT, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Mike York scored off a rebound with less than four minutes left to play Sunday to give the New York Islanders a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings.

Alexei Yashin scored his 12th goal of the season and Rick DiPietro made 35 saves for the Islanders, who have won two of their last three games.

Mathieu Schneider scored a goal for the fifth time in the last four games and James Howard stopped 26 of 28 shots for Detroit, which has lost two straight.

Entering the third period tied at 1-1, the Islanders took their first lead of the game with 3:41 left in the contest after York batted home a rebound into a wide-open net.
