USC, Texas to meet for national championship

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Reggie Bush rushed for 260 yards and two touchdowns and LenDale White added 154 yards with three TDs Saturday as No. 1 Southern Cal beat UCLA, 66-19.

A total of 228 of Bush's yards came in the first half and White set a new school record with 54 career touchdowns for the Trojans (12-0, 8-0 Pac 10), who finished off their perfect season and will play No. 2 Texas in the Rose Bowl for the national championship.

The Longhorns beat Colorado 70-3 in the Big 12 championship game Saturday.

Matt Leinart was 21-of-40 passing for 233 yards and three touchdowns as the Trojans increased their consecutive-game winning streak to 34 games.

UCLA's Drew Olson was 14-of-32 passing for 146 yards and one touchdown but was sacked five times. Maurice Drew added 84 yards on the ground with a TD for the Bruins (9-2, 6-2).

Croatia leads Slovak Republic 2-1 in Davis Cup

BRATISLAVA, Slovak Republic, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- A doubles tandem of Ivan Ljubicic and Mario Ancic gave Croatia a 2-1 lead Saturday in the best-of-five Davis Cup final versus the Slovak Republic.

Ljubicic and Ancic defeated a Slovak duo of Dominik Hrbaty and Michal Mertinak, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), in 2 hours, 48 minutes. Croatia never trailed in the third-set tiebreak.

Ljubicic improved to 11-0 in Davis Cup play this year, including 4-0 in doubles alongside Ancic. He is the first man to win 11 live rubbers in one year since the World Group was established back in 1981.

Ljubicic and Ancic were Olympic bronze medalists in Athens last year.

Hrbaty filled in for an injured Karol Beck, who also pulled out of his opening singles rubber against Ljubicic here on Friday due to a nagging left knee injury.


Bernard Langer and son combine for a 59

ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Bernhard Langer and his son, Stefan, combined for a 13-under 59 Saturday to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the two-day Father/Son Challenge.

Raymond and Robert Floyd, who won in 2000 and 2001, shot a 12-under 60. They were joined in second place by Vijay and Qass Singh, as well as Hale and Steve Irwin, who won this crown in 2003.

Larry Nelson, who won last year with his so Drew, played this year with his son, Josh. They opened with an 11-under 61 and share fifth place with the Pates, Jerry and Wesley, and Mark O'Meara, who is playing with son Shaun.


Yates leads in Hong Kong after a 61

HONG KONG, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Simon Yates fired a course-record, 9-under 61 Saturday to take the lead through three rounds of the Hong Kong Open.

Yates, an Asian Tour regular looking for his first European Tour victory in this co-sanctioned event, had nine birdies in a bogey-free round. After 54 holes, he is at 11-under-par 199 for a two-shot lead over three players.

Among the 13 players within four strokes of his lead is eight-time European Tour Order of Merit winner Colin Montgomerie, who finished with a second straight 4-under 66 and shares second place at 9-under with James Kingston (64) and Martin Erlandsson (68).

Damien McGrane and Maarten Lafeber tied for the second best round of the day with a seven-under 63.
