MIAMI, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- The fate of the Orange Bowl could be decided soon as officials mull over whether to renovate or rebuild the aging stadium.
A meeting between the city and the University of Miami next week will help determine whether the 69-year-old facility gets a major facelift or should be torn down and a new 65,000-seat stadium built on the same site.
City Manager Joe Arriola says the main issue involves an engineering study of the stadium to determine how much it was damaged by Hurricane Wilma, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel said Thursday.
According to University of Miami Athletic Director Paul Dee, the safety of the Orange Bowl was never an issue before.
The Miami Hurricanes will play in the Orange Bowl next season but reportedly might need to relocate to Dolphins Stadium for the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
