MORGANTOWN, W.Va., Nov. 25 (UPI) -- Steve Slaton rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns Thursday night as 12th-ranked West Virginia mauled Pittsburgh, 45-13.

Slayton had 23 carries while quarterback Pat White added 23 attempts for 220 yards and two scores for the Mountaineers (9-1, 6-0 Big East), who gained 451 yards on the ground. With the victory in the annual "Backyard Brawl," WVU claimed at least a share of the conference title, but will have to beat South Florida next Saturday to claim the automatic BCS bid.

Tyler Palko was 24-of-43 passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions, while Greg Lee made six catches for 142 yards and two touchdowns, Rashad Jennings gained 69 yards on 13 attempts and Greg Lee made six receptions for 142 yards for the Panthers (5-6, 4-3 Big East), who lost for only the second time in the last six games.
