COL FB: Clemson 13, South Carolina 9

COLUMBIA, S.C., Nov. 19 (UPI) -- James Davis scored the game's only touchdown in the fourth quarter Saturday night as Clemson beat No. 21 South Carolina, 13-9.

Before that, the defensive tussle had been a battle of field goals between Clemson's Jad Dean and the Gamecocks' Josh Brown.

Charlie Whitehurst went 17-of-26 passing for 173 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions, while Davis gained 144 yards on 27 attempts, and Curtis Baham and Aaron Kelly combined for 10 catches and 132 receiving yards for the Tigers (7-4), who have beaten the Gamecocks two years in a row.

Blake Mitchell was 16-of-29 for 180 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions. Sidney Rice made seven receptions for 122 yards, and Bobby Wallace gained 51 yards on six carries for South Carolina (7-4), which had become bowl-eligible after beating Florida last Saturday for its first top-25 appearance of the season under new coach Steve Spurrier.
