Colts owner's widow charged

CARMEL, Ind., Nov. 16 (UPI) -- The widow of Robert Irsay, who owned the Indianapolis Colts until his death in 1997, was given a ticket for leaving the scene of an accident.

Nancy Irsay is also waiting for her trial on drunken driving and public intoxication to begin, the Indianapolis Star reports.

Irsay allegedly pulled out of her driveway into the path of a truck, and then fled into her house.

A groundskeeper allegedly took the blame initially. Carmel, Ind., Assistant Police Chief Tim Green said Nancy Irsay could have been arrested for lying to police but was given the misdemeanor ticket instead.

Her court date is set for Jan. 18. Irsay is also due in a Marion County courtroom on charges she was intoxicated as she drove 70 mph in a 30 mph zone.

Police say she was driving her Porsche Carrera GT so fast she was airborne through the intersection of 38th and Illinois Streets.

Irsay denies the charges.
