Lombardi Award finalists announced

HOUSTON, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- Louisville end Elvis Dumervil, Ohio State linebacker A.J. Hawk, Texas tackle Rod Wright and Penn State linebacker Paul Posluszny are finalists for the Lombardi Award.

The award given each year to the top lineman or linebacker in college football will be announced Dec. 7.

Dumervil leads the nation with 20 sacks and set an NCAA record by forcing 10 fumbles this year for the Cardinals. The NCAA record is 24 sacks in one season.

Hawk, a semifinalist for the award last year, led the Buckeyes in tackles in nine of the team's 10 games this year, which also includes five contests with at least 10 stops.

Wright has 12 tackles for losses for the Longhorns, who are ranked second in the BCS poll and are undefeated at 10-0.

Posluszny is fourth in the Big Ten with 106 tackles, including 22 in a win over Northwestern. He is the only junior of the group.
