NHL: NY Islanders 3, Pittsburgh 2 (OT)

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Jason Blake scored in the ninth round of a shootout Monday to give the New York Islanders a 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Shawn Bates scored once in regulation and again in the shootout as Islanders won their second game in a row and third in four tries. Alexei Yashin got New York's other regulation goal.

Rick DiPietro made 26 saves through the first four periods and turned away seven Penguin attempts in the deciding final segment, the longest since the NHL adopted the shootout format.

Erik Christensen and Sidney Crosby each had third-period goals for Pittsburgh, and both accounted for the Penguins' two scores during the shootout.
