Virginia suspends four football players

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Four University of Virginia football players were suspended Thursday and will not face No. 24 Georgia Tech on Saturday.

The suspended players were senior wide receiver Ottowa Anderson, junior safety Tony Franklin, sophomore defensive end Vince Redd and senior defensive tackle Kwakou Robinson.

The contest is critical for the Cavaliers (5-3, 2-3 ACC), who need one more win to become bowl eligible and still have to play 8th-ranked Virginia Tech (Nov. 19) and No. 4 Miami (Nov. 26). Virginia will be a prohibitive underdog in both contests.

The university would not comment on the specifics of the infractions, or whether the players would miss the Cavaliers' upcoming games.

Franklin, a team captain, has started since his freshman season and is third this year with 42 tackles; Robinson has compiled 20 tackles at nose tackle; Anderson has nine receptions for 168 yards; and Redd has played in every game this season in a reserve role and has six tackles.
