BLACKSBURG, Va., Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Charlie Jones rushed for a career-high 97 yards and a touchdown Saturday night as 5th-ranked Miami recorded a convincing 27-7 win over No. 3 Virginia Tech.
The win gave the Hurricanes (7-1, 4-1 ACC) some payback after they were beaten at home last season by the Hokies.
Quarterback Kyle Wright went 13-of-22 for 146 yards and one touchdown and the Miami defense held the Hokies to 167 total yards and forced six turnovers. Tech quarterback Marcus Vick was just 8-of-22 for 90 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions. Vick lost four fumbles as Virginia Tech (8-1, 5-1 ACC) had a 16-game regular-season win streak snapped.
The victory makes Miami front-runner to meet Florida State in next month's ACC Championship game at Jacksonville. Despite FSU's loss to N.C. State on Saturday, the Seminoles still clinched a spot in the title game.
