
MORGANTOWN, W.Va., Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Freshman quarterback Pat White accounted for three touchdowns Wednesday night to help No. 16 West Virginia trounce Connecticut, 45-13.
White replaced starter Adam Bednarik, who is nursing a foot injury and was 7-of-16 passing for 106 yards and one touchdown. He added 63 yards rushing on 12 attempts.
Running back Steve Slaton had 71 yards on 17 attempts and one touchdown, and fullback Owen Schmitt added 32 yards and a touchdown on four carries for the Mountaineers (7-1, 4-0 Big East), who were playing for the first time since Oct. 22, after its game against South Florida was postponed because of hurricane conditions.
Quarterback Dennis Brown was 10-for-19 passing for only 97 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception for the Huskies (4-4, 1-3 Big East), who have dropped three in a row after starting the season 4-1. The West Virginia defense registered seven sacks.
