NFL Saints' ultimate goal: City of Angels

SAN ANTONIO, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- A Louisiana lawmaker says the Saints are looking to "boogie out" of Hurricane Katrina-devastated New Orleans ultimately to Los Angeles.

San Antonio, Texas, has been the Saints' home since Katrina and flooding swamped the Big Easy.

San Antonio Mayor Phil Hardberger said he has been talking about bringing a pro football team to his city for a year.

"We'll do what we need to do to get it done," Hardberger told the Dallas Morning News. "The Saints would be a perfect fit."

Even if that happened, Louisiana Sen. Ken Hollis, R-Metairie, said Saints owner "Tom Benson is looking for a permanent home in Los Angeles. That's the big meal ticket."

"I think he's looking for a way to break his contract with Louisiana and New Orleans as quick as he can and boogie out -- and that's outrageous," Hollis said.

Benson and NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue met with Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco after Sunday's game in Baton Rouge, La.

While Tagliabue said the NFL is committed to keeping the Saints in New Orleans, several issues are yet to be resolved.
