NFL: Carolina 38, Minnesota 13

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Steve Smith gained 199 receiving yards Sunday to help Carolina beat the Minnesota Vikings, 38-13.

The yardage set a franchise record. Smith, who scored once, had 11 receptions.

Quarterback Jake Delhomme was 21-of-30 passing for 341 yards and three touchdowns for the Panthers (5-2), who have won four in a row. Stephen Davis added 40 yards rushing and two scores.

Carolina sprinted out to an early lead and never looked back. The Panthers led at halftime, 24-0.

Minnesota quarterback Daunte Culpepper suffered a right knee sprain on the last play of the first quarter. His replacement, Brad Johnson, went 13-of-28 for 162 yards and one touchdown for the Vikings (2-5).

Marcus Robinson had four catches for 77 yards and a score, and Mewelde Moore was held to 30 yards and one score on nine attempts.
