COL FB: TCU 23, San Diego State 20

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Robert Merrill rushed for 170 yards and two touchdowns Saturday night as 20th-ranked TCU overcame San Diego State, 23-20.

Quarterback Jeff Ballard was just 13-of-23 passing for 112 yards and two interceptions. Aaron Brown added 83 yards rushing on 15 attempts.

The Horned Frogs (8-1, 6-0 MWC), who ran for 309 yards, out-gained the Aztecs, 403-360, in winning for the seventh straight time.

Kevin O'Connell, who went 25-of-46 for 235 yards, tossed two touchdown passes, but also threw two interceptions. He added 49 rushing yards on 17 attempts and one score. O'Connell finished with 284 total yards for the Aztecs (3-6, 2-4 MWC), who have dropped two straight.

On a 38-yard first quarter run, Merrill moved into eighth place on TCU's career rushing list with 2,554 yards.

TCU graduate LaDainian Tomlinson of the San Diego Chargers was on the sidelines watching the game.
