Mott not poetic on Shakespeare

ELMONT, N.Y., Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Trainer Bill Mott isn't waxing poetic about Shakespeare's chances in Saturday's John Deere Breeders' Cup Turf at Belmont Park.

"The only Shakespeare I know is, 'Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown,' " Mott quipped. "That is Shakespeare isn't it?"

Mott's hoping to recreate his 1995 appearance at Belmont when he saddled Cigar for the Classic.

"Maybe we're ready for a 10-year reunion and ready for another," said Mott Thursday morning after sending Shakespeare to the track for a two-mile gallop over the main track.

Shakespeare is one of five horses Mott is bringing to the championship series. The son of Theatrical is the 3-1 morning line favorite in the Turf and drew the No. 7 post position. Jerry Bailey is due to be aboard.

Mott also saddled Theatrical for the 1987 Turf victory at Hollywood Park.

The morning line makes Irish-bred Azamour the closest competition at 3-1. He warmed up for Saturday's race with 4 furlongs Thursday in 54 seconds flat.
