Brothers makes Juvenile debut

Oct. 27, 2005 at 5:04 PM   |   Comments

ELMONT, N.Y., Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Trainer Frank Brothers makes his Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile debut with favorite First Samurai at Saturday's championship series at Belmont Park.

First Samurai, who has won two Grade Is, is a "very precious 2-year-old," Brothers said. "Anytime a 2-year-old wins a Grade I, that's impressive. That's hard to do."

Brothers almost had a chance at the Juvenile in 1990 with Hansel, who went on to win the 1991 Preakness, but a small chip behind his ankle after the Arlington-Washington Futurity nixed that opportunity. His last series entry was Arch in the 1998 Classic.
