TORONTO, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Atlanta Thrashers forward Eric Boulton has been suspended for six games for his hit on Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Paul Ranger last Thursday night.

The suspension was finalized following a hearing. Boulton already has served one game of the suspension, missing Saturday night's game versus New Jersey. He will be eligible to return Nov. 5 at Philadelphia.

Boulton was given a game misconduct in the third period after elbowing Ranger to the head with 2:31 left in the game. Ranger was forced to leave the game.

"It is clear Mr. Boulton's actions were careless and caused injury to his opponent," said NHL Executive Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell. "There is no circumstance that can justify this type of action."

Based on his average annual salary, Boulton will forfeit $15,306.12.
