EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Amado Guevara scored the game's only goal Saturday night as the MetroStars beat New England, 1-0, in Game One of their MLS Eastern Division semifinals series.

Goalie Tony Meola made three saves on the way to his seventh career shutout in the playoffs for the MetroStars, who were unbeaten in their final four matches of the regular season. That strong finish helped them clinch the fourth and final playoff slot in the East on the last day of the regular soccer season.

The high-powered offense of the Revolution failed on all 11 of their shot attempts. New England, the top seed in the East, lost for just the second time in its last six contests.

Game Two is Saturday night in Foxboro.
