COL FB: Northwestern 49, Michigan State 14

EAST LANSING, Mich., Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Brett Basanez threw two touchdown passes and also ran for two scores Saturday as No. 22 Northwestern steamrolled Michigan State, 49-14.

Basanez was 24-for-30 passing for 331 yards and had 17 yards on five rushing attempts as the Wildcats scored 49 straight points in a surprising rout and improved to 5-2 (3-1 Big Ten). Tyrell Sutton also scored two times and rushed for 109 yards on 21 carries, Shaun Herbert caught 10 passes for 138 yards and one score while Mark Philmore and Eric Peterman each caught a scoring pass.

For MSU, Drew Stanton went 20-for-38 for 234 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Stanton also lost a fumble.

Javon Ringer had 104 yards on 18 carries, Jehuu Caulcrick scored a touchdown on the ground, and Kerry Reed caught a touchdown pass for the Spartans, who have dropped three straight after beginning the season 4-0.
