NEW YORK, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan admits being a competition junkie but says he is not addicted to gambling.
Jordan, 42, tells CBS' "60 Minutes" he has been embarrassed by his massive gambling losses, but he never let his gambling reach the point where it endangered his family life or career, the New York Daily News and the Chicago Sun-Times reported Thursday.
"I've gotten myself into (gambling) situations where I would not walk away and I've pushed the envelope," he tells interviewer Ed Bradley.
"But my drive to win is so great ... I just step over that line. ... It's very embarrassing, ... one of the things you totally regret. So you look at yourself in the mirror and say, 'I was stupid.'"
Jordan, promoting his book, "Driven from Within," says he is not a compulsive gambler.
"If you're willing to jeopardize your livelihood and your family, then, yeah, (it is compulsive)," he said.
When asked if he was willing to do that, he replied, "No."
The Jordan interview on "60 Minutes" is scheduled to run Sunday.
