Briny Baird leads at Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- With a 10-under-par 62 on Thursday, Briny Baird has the lead after 18 holes at the Michelin Championship in Las Vegas.

In the bogey-free round, Baird matched the best opening round on the PGA Tour this season.

Ryan Palmer is tied for second at 9-under 63 with Charles Howell III and Justin Leonard.

Kevin Stadler, the son of Craig Stadler, recorded his second hole-in-one of the season with a nine-iron at No. 14 and is tied for fourth place at 8-under 64.

Joining Stadler were Michael Allen, Bart Bryant and Scott Gutschewski.

World No. 3 Phil Mickelson, the highest-ranked player in the field, is tied for 38th place after a 4-under-par 67.
