NFL Vikings cruise turns into sex party

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Members of the Minnesota Vikings were under investigation for a sex party aboard two Lake Minnetonka boats that grew so wild it was halted after 40 minutes.

First-year Vikings Safety Fred Smoot and possibly two other players organized the excursion last Thursday, an attorney for Al & Alma's Supper Club and Charter Cruises told The (Minn.) Star Tribune.

"(The captains) had to step around people who were having sex on the floor," attorney Stephen Doyle said. "They were thinking it couldn't be safe out in the middle of the lake. It was a petrifying scene."

Doyle said at least 17 Vikings were among some 90 people on the boats.

The boats' owners ordered the cruise -- originally scheduled for 3 ½ hours -- halted.

The NFL team said Tuesday it was investigating the serious allegations.

The flap arose as Vikings' owner Zygi Wilf hosted a retreat about how the team will operate under new ownership.

The cruise also riled state lawmakers, who have been asked to hold a special session on funding a new stadium.
