
STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Defending champion Thomas Johansson was a winner Wednesday at the Stockholm Open.
Johansson -- who won the Stockholm Open in 2000 and 2004, and was the runner-up in 1998 -- beat Vincent Spadea, 6-3, 6-4, in a second round match. He topped Andre Agassi in last year's final.
In other action Wednesday, Davide Sanguinetti topped George Bastl, 5-7, 6-4, and Mario Ancic -- who lost the title match at the Japan Open last week -- beat Karol Beck 7-6 (7-2), 6-4. Olivier Rochus beat Frederic Niemeyer 6-2, 6-4, and Jarkko Nieminen topped former Olympic gold medalist Nicolas Massu, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2.
Other winners were Alexander Waske, Jonas Bjorkman, Christophe Rochus and Xavier Malisse.
The champion of this event will earn $115,000.
