MLB: LA Angels 3, Chicago WSox 2

CHICAGO, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Garret Anderson had a homer Tuesday as the LA Angels beat the Chicago White Sox, 3-2, in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series.

Game 2 of this best-of-seven series is scheduled for Wednesday in Chicago.

Orlando Cabrera and Vladimir Guerrero each drove in a run for the Angels, who were coming off a win over the New York Yankees in the AL Division Series.

Angels starter Paul Byrd (1-0) allowed two runs and five hits in six-plus innings.

The Angels were playing their third game in as many days -- all in different time zones. They lost to the Yankees in New York on Sunday and won the decisive Game 5 of the ALDS Monday in Anaheim before heading to Chicago.

Joe Crede hit a homer and A.J. Pierzynski drove in a run for the White Sox, who were coming off an extended layoff. Chicago last played on Friday after sweeping Boston.
