Angels ace won't pitch in ALCS

CHICAGO, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Los Angeles Angels ace Bartolo Colon will miss the American League Championship Series because of a shoulder injury.

Colon left Game 5 of the Division Series against the New York Yankees in the second inning Monday because of inflammation in his shoulder.

Angels Manager Mike Scioscia decided to keep the ailing righthander off the roster for the upcoming series against the Chicago White Sox. If the Angels reach the World Series, Colon could return if he is healthy enough to pitch. Teams are allowed to make roster changes between series.

Colon, 22, left Monday after throwing just 23 pitches with the game still scoreless. He worked through the first inning without any noticeable problems, but was wincing in pain during his warmup tosses before the start of the second.
