SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Tiger Woods
won the WGC-American Express Championship Sunday in a playoff with John Daly
, who missed a short putt on the second playoff hole.
The players finished regulation at 10-under par 270. Daly, who was the leader after three rounds, shot 69 on the final day. Woods shot a closing 3-under 67.
Colin Montgomerie (70), who led after each of the first two rounds, finished at 8-under 272, along with Sergio Garcia (69) and Henrik Stenson (68).
Vijay Singh (69) tied for sixth place with Graeme McDowell (68), David Howell (67) and David Toms (69) at 5-under 275.
Stephen Ames (69) finished in 10th place at 4-under 276.
Woods earned $1.3 million for the tournament, and has won nearly $10 million so far in 2005.
