CHICAGO, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Jack Stewart scored in extra time Wednesday night to help the Chicago Fire earn a 2-2 tie with the MetroStars.

Chris Armas also had a goal for the Fire, who became the third team in the Eastern Conference to qualify for the upcoming playoffs with the tie. Rookie goalkeeper David Mahoney made four saves for Chicago in his second straight start.

Eddie Gaven scored both goals for the MetroStars, who could not hold on to a two-goal lead in the debut of Mo Johnston, who became the interim coach of the New York/New Jersey team Tuesday after Bob Bradley was fired.
