METZ, France, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Russian Nikolay Davydenko and big-serving Croat Ivan Ljubicic highlighted Monday's first-round winners at the Open de Moselle tennis event.
Davydenko drubbed Brazilian Ricardo Mello 6-3, 6-1, while the third-seeded Ljubicic knocked out Argentine Jose Acasuso 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 at Les Arenes de Metz.

Two other seeds moved on, as No. 4 Slovakian Dominik Hrbaty handled French favorite Thierry Ascione 6-3, 6-4 and No. 5 Swede Robin Soderling held off Czech Tomas Zib 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
An upset came when Argentine Agustin Calleri cut down eighth-seeded Chilean Nicolas Massu 7-5, 7-5.
Jerome Haehnel bested Richard Gasquet in last year's all-French finale here. Gasquet is this year's second seed.
